What is the external structure of the Earth? It has been known for more than 2000 years that the Earth is round, but we were able to actually see this much later only when we flew into space. Red, glowing lava streams erupt from volcanoes. Earthquakes make the ground tremble and shake. Cyclones sweep over oceans and land, causing untold suffering to human beings and animals. The Earth is the only planet in our solar system that has life on it. We have not yet visited the other planets, but have sent remote-controlled probes to explore them.
